WordPress or a managed restaurant website: who looks after the plugins on a Friday night?

WordPress is flexible and has a huge ecosystem, so it is a strong choice if you have a developer or agency who maintains it. For most independent restaurants the problem is not what WordPress can do but who keeps it updated, secure and fast every month. A managed site removes that job: we build it custom coded, host it, keep it fast and make every change you send.

When WordPress is the better fit

  • You have a developer or agency on retainer who already maintains WordPress well.
  • You need a specific plugin or integration that only exists in the WordPress ecosystem.
  • You want to self-host and control every file on your own server.

When a managed neighborhood restaurant website wins

  • The current site is slow on phones because of a heavy theme, sliders and plugins, and nobody knows which one to remove.
  • A plugin update broke the menu or the reservation widget once already, and you do not want to be the one fixing it.
  • You want hosting, security, speed and updates in one monthly fee with no separate bills.

A 30-minute walk-through of the site you would get, with your menu and your room. Plans from $117 a month; the $647 build fee is invoiced only after you approve the launch.

What owners say after switching

  • The menu on the site finally matches what comes out of the kitchen. Regulars stopped calling to ask if the Tuesday prix fixe is still on, because the page says so, and the waitlist fills from the sidewalk on a Friday instead of from the host stand phone.

Marisol Vega, OwnerNeighborhood bistro, Chicago, ILThe Table plan, menu page and waitlist on the homepage
  • Our list used to live in a PDF nobody could open on a phone at 11pm. Now a new cocktail is on the site the same week we pour it, and the chat answers "are you doing a happy hour tonight" while the bar is three deep.

Darnell Brooks, OwnerCocktail bar, Atlanta, GAThe Full House plan, cocktail list pages and AI chat
  • People used to find us through a delivery app because that was the only thing in search. Now our own pickup page shows up, brunch and dinner menus are separate, and the orders come to us at our own prices.

Questions about WordPress and EateryWebStudio

Is WordPress good for restaurant websites?

It can be very good in the right hands. It is flexible, has restaurant themes and plugins, and gives full control. The trade-off is ongoing upkeep: updates, security and speed need someone who looks after them every month.

Why are so many restaurant WordPress sites slow?

Usually because of heavy themes, image sliders, several plugins loading scripts on every page and budget hosting. None of that is WordPress’s fault alone; it is what happens when a site is built quickly and never tuned.

Will I lose my blog posts if I leave WordPress?

No. We move your posts and pages across, keep or redirect their addresses with 301 redirects, and preserve what already ranks.

Can I still edit the site myself?

You do not log in to the website at all. You send changes from your client portal or by email and we publish them, which is the point for owners who do not want to maintain a CMS.

What about my reservation plugin?

Whatever reservation or waitlist platform you use gets built into the page directly. If you switch platforms later, that is a normal revision, not a rebuild.

Is a custom-coded site less flexible than WordPress?

In one way, yes: you cannot install a plugin yourself. In return there are far fewer moving parts to break and nothing for you to update. New features are requests to us, handled as revisions.

How does the cost compare?

WordPress itself is free, but hosting, premium themes, plugins and someone’s time are not. Our plans run $117 to $597 a month with hosting, domain, updates and 5 revisions included, plus a $647 build fee invoiced after launch.

Can I go back to WordPress later?

Yes. The domain is registered in your name, and we send an export of your content and articles within 14 days of cancellation.
